Maybe there really is a tooth fairy. Because about now, maybe that's all that can save us from the Astoria City Council (who wants to let in view-blocking condos on Astoria's waterfront in a major good-old-boy coup) and the Clatsop County Planning Commission (who wants to let LNG onto the Columbia River despite common sense and their own staff's recommendations against it).
Wait a minute. How come these people don't have to answer to the voters who put their comfy butts into office? Don't know the answer to that one, except that perhaps a recall is in order.
Okay, that's a fine idea, but the damage is already done. The pathway is already paved in dollar signs for LNG tanks to be built in Bradwood and for condos to be built on the waterfront.
So my next question is ... Has anyone filed an appeal about either one of these demented decisions by local politicians with the Land Use Board of Appeals before the time limit expires??
I understand one group said that it was "too soon" to file an appeal. Ummm, well then, does that mean it's better to file when it's too late?
Ass kissing and dollar signs.
It works in big towns, and better yet in small ones. The "Welcome to Clatsop County, bend over" signs should start appearing shortly.

Recall whom?
Oh, just wishful thinking. Recall the city council and the commissioners. I realize no one would ever do such a thing up here, and I don't know if it's even possible.
But the majority of the council and the commission certainly don't seem to be doing what they were elected to do, i.e. represent the wishes of their constituents. It's like they've gone rogue ...
In other states rogue politicians can be punished with a recall. Seems like there are no consequences here.
They did it where I used to live. They sure did. Mid-term. It was awesome.
As for the condos, now that I've met the head guy, I'm convinced that the second anyone "bitches" at him, he'll get up and leave and this town will be totally screwed. I've seen his approach firsthand, and I was not impressed.
Mom3 ...
I lived in a place where they did a recall, too, and I agree, it's amazing ... and a damn good lesson for politicians who ignore the mandate from their voters.
Haven't met the condo head guy, and don't quite understand what you mean that the town will be screwed if he leaves. Think we'll all be better off if he takes his greedy project elsewhere. The waterfront will certainly benefit from his departure in that the view will be spared for all of us to enjoy. I'm sure other, less intrusive and view-blocking projects will come along.
Astoria really doesn't need to look like a trashy Coney Island tourist trap like Seaside.
